Find Golf Lessons and Golf Instructors

When can I finally get out onto the Golf Course??

Some guy taking a golf lesson and practicing a golf swingI know it may be hard trying to contain yourself from going on the golf course but for now don't even contemplate it. As you may know, golf is a very demanding and technical game and requires a lot of patience no matter what your skill level is.

If you haven't had any basic training before you head out onto the course you will get frustrated guaranteed, and that's not good for the beginner golfer. Just imagine how you'll feel when every single shot is sliced or just a really bad shot, you're not going to be happy, and the people playing behind you aren't going to be either.

As a newbie to the game of golf you should start off at a driving range before you even contemplate heading to the course. You should get at least 5 or 6 good sessions in so you can learn the basics, then head out onto the pitch and putt for a few sessions there too.

Where to look for golf schools & instructors?

You should get to learn the basics from a professional tutor really. These are freely available at driving ranges or schools. The people at the driving range will share a tip or two with you, but it's important that you don't pay too much attention to them as they may have only just started before you.

Even the world’s top players get lessons from coaches, so make sure you get a good basis of knowledge from the very beginning and then you can use that knowledge to build upon.

You can also sign up for lessons at several golf clubs, I'm sure your local golf club would offer something like this. If you show them the money they will gladly help. On the subject of money, lessons normally cost $25 to $45 per 45 min's. If you can get booked in for a group session they normally work out a little cheaper, so ask your friends if they fancy it.

Here are some useful resources you should use to find your local instructors, schools, and lessons:

  • FINDaLESSON.com - This online directory allows you to search for golf schools or individual golf instructors located near you.
  • PGAPros.com - Plug in your state and your ZIP Code to get a list of teaching professionals near you.
  • GolfAcademies.com - Use the search functions to find a nearby golf school or golf instructor, or to compare your options.

To go hand in hand with these lessons you can watch some golf instructional videos or DVD's. There's a great selection of videos available in lesson format from PurePoint Golf. They are put together by a team of professionals and the head coach Bobby Eldridge is one of the top coaches in the country. Bobby alone has done over 70,000 individual lessons in his career so he's got a fair bit of knowledge behind him. The DVD's aren't the cheapest available but they're proven to work and they can be used for all areas of your game. Just take a minute to check them out at Purepointgolf.com

So, what else can I do?

As I said, books and videos are essential to improving your game and learning the basics. The most important part of your game is your swing, as this is the foundation of which you'll be building your game around. So to have a good solid swing is absolutely invaluable. There are three main aspects of a golf swing which are: Grip, Stance, and Posture. Purepoint golf offer lessons on all three of these fundamentals in their Full Swing Instructional DVD Set.

Another good way of developing your game is to watch the best in action. Watching the pro's on the box can help you learn a lot. You can even record their actions and replay it back so you can analyze how they are doing what they are doing. Don't get taken back with all the science behind golf, remember your still a beginner and your still learning, keep it simple. Take a look at some of our beginner golf tips and beginner golf lessons for some good advice.
